La Palma

La Palma is not among the most visited tourist spots of the Canary Islands. The reason is a small beach area and that the sun here and there, hiding in front of you. On the other hand, there are reasons that La Palma is known as "La Isla Bonita" (Beautiful Island) and "La Isla Verde" (Green Island).

 

Favorable climatic conditions allow us to admire here, a kind and wonderful plants and trees. Island of La Palma will be popular for tourism lovers. For them, were arranged routes varying degrees of difficulty. Due to terrain, the island will feel better and cyclists eager to try their powers. If you are fans of wildlife and the landscape, certainly, La Palma will take breath.

La Palma covers 706 km ² making it the fifteen size between the islands Canaries archipelago. The highest peak here is the Roque de los Muchachos (2426 m). The biggest difference in altitude in the world for so small an area. On the island live 85 000 inhabitants, of whom 18 000, the main town of Santa Cruz de la Palma. The climate is influenced by moist winds, rains often, average annual temperature is 20oC.

The islands grow banana trees, many varieties of fruit trees, palm trees and of course ienuperi. Do not be fooled however, as the translation, La Palma means "hand". Steppe areas are haunted by mouflon and here you can meet wild rabbit. Fertile land is favorable to agriculture. And tobacco are grown here. It is worth to taste very good local honey and wine famous.


If you long to wrap a green blanket and enjoy an unspoiled nature, visit the National Park Caldera of Taburiente. Besides the cave Cueva Bonita Tenequia volcano, you can admire the raw green and many springs, rivers and rivulets. You will be able to look inside the world's largest volcanic crater. Caldera of Taburiente is 9 km in diameter and a depth of 770 m

Worth a visit and the main town of the island, Santa Cruz de la Palma. Wonderful streets, porches and balconies have been popular for its Columbus himself, who stopped here during his expeditions. On the square Plaza de Espana is the church Iglesia El Salvador dating from the fifteenth century. Interestingly also, Marine History Museum which is located in a sailing vessel.

Those who look forward to heaven and starry vault lovers will appreciate the fact that, according to astronomers, the highest places in La Palma offers the best conditions for observing the stars in the world. It goes without saying that the Roque de los Muchachos is an observer.
